A return project for studio on the rye, after initially completing a ground floor extension we were asked back to renovate the first floor and transform the loft into a master bedroom suite.

The brief was to create a master bedroom for a growing family, so that the parents could enjoy their own space of calm and tranquillity. We took design inspiration from boutique hotels so that the clients could go on holiday without going anywhere.
The form and materiality of the roof extension were carefully considered to fit in with both the original house and the existing rear extension. The standing seam zinc dormer blends in with the neighbouring slate roofs, and the scale of the dormer window reflects the bifold doors of the ground floor extension.
The new bedroom takes advantage of its tree-top location with the addition of a dormer window, giving panoramic views and filling the space with light.
An ensuite bathroom and walk in wardrobe were added to the loft to maximise the space under the existing pitched roof.
